St. Petersburg Mining University held a student flash mob "Back to Science" as part of the events timed to coincide with the opening of the Year of Science and Technology.
According to the Decree of the President of Russia, the current year was declared the Year of Science and Technology. Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized that education and innovation, technological sovereignty are not just important, but a decisive factor in economic development and national security. In this context, a special role acquires the attraction of talented young people into the sphere of science, the establishment of communication between the academic environment and educational institutions, as well as the popularization of research careers among schoolchildren.
The "Back to Science" campaign was launched by the Ministry of Education and Science. The flash mob symbolizes the return of students, postgraduate students, and faculty to the traditional format of education and the resumption of face-to-face classes. Representatives of the University of Mines post photos and videos of their workplace, lab, or library on their social media accounts with the inscription #NOWSchool.
According to the information of the Ministry, the main part of the plan of the celebration of the Year of Science and Technologies will include about 70 main federal events, 60% of which will be various forums, exhibitions, scientific and practical conferences of international, all-Russian and regional levels. Higher education institutions and research institutes will play a key role in them. It is assumed that the involvement of audiences in online and offline formats will be at least 50 million people.
