Security measures have been tightened in the Northern Capital after the incident in Perm.

On Monday, September 20, the St. Petersburg Mining University told Forpost that all buildings of the university are guarded round the clock with the help of modern technology. According to Oleg Dobrynin, the head of the Department of Low Voltage Network of the university, no unauthorized person will be able to get inside.

“In all buildings of Mining University, which are three educational centers and eight dormitories, there is a control pass system. Controllers are on duty everywhere and turnstiles are installed,” he said.

There are metal detectors and a temperature-measuring system at every checkpoint in all buildings. In all centres and dormitories, thermal imaging complexes are installed. In addition, in the Gorny Multifunctional Center, security is provided by the installation for the inspection of things.

According to Dobrynin, all facilities are equipped with an access control system. Messages from there go to a centralized service. If one of the commandants for any reason forbids a student to enter a dormitory, it will immediately be reflected in the system.

"Now the students of Mining University can visit any dormitory, they study together, go to each other to exchange experiences, just to visit. But if a student has done something wrong, then the commandant notes it in the system and the head of the service sees it, and the entrance to such student is blocked," explained Dobrynin.

He also noted that in all university buildings there is a panic button. In case of an emergency, ACPS controllers call a squad of the Federal Guard Service.

“There are 24-hour video surveillance systems at all facilities. They view everything around the perimeter and inside the premises, in many buildings, including the corridors,” added the head of the Department of Low Voltage Network.

The state of all these systems is monitored 24 hours a day by the on-duty dispatcher service. It monitors everything from firefighting systems to jammed elevators. The on-duty dispatcher also sees in real-time what is happening at the remote facilities, the dormitories, the second and third training centres. The main control room is in the first training centre, it also receives signals of civil defence and emergencies, which also works with the dispatcher on duty.

We would remind you that this morning an armed 18-year-old student attacked students of the university in Perm. He shot six people, more than 20 were wounded.

A criminal case has been opened, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko and the head of the Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov arrived on the scene.

Perm Krai authorities declared September 21 a day of mourning.
