The All-Russian Forum-Competition for young scientists ended in Saint-Petersburg

Students, postgraduate students, and recent graduates of technical universities, who are now working in mining and oil & gas companies, for a week told the experts about their scientific research, participated in production tours, and listened to act lectures on current trends in higher education, oil & gas and mining industries.

The closing ceremony of the 19th Annual All-Russian Conference Contest of Young Scientists “Topical Issues of Subsoil Use” was held on Friday, April 16. This forum has long acquired the status of a kind of talent show. After all, its participants have the opportunity not only to make presentations of their projects but also to listen to the expert opinion of established professionals, as well as to attract the attention of potential employers.

This year the organizers received 837 applications, 657 of which were preselected. Due to the complicated sanitary and epidemiological situation, the contest was held in a mixed format - 260 people were connected to the sectional meetings via videoconference, and the rest came to the City on the Neva River in person, 150 of them were representatives of the Nedra University Consortium - received grants covering all expenses, including travel expenses.

The conference was held in 19 sections. Among them - "Innovative technologies in the development and operation of hydrocarbon deposits”, “Actual problems of pipeline transport in the 21st century”, “Sustainable development of regions and environmental safety”, “Digital transformation” and several others. The largest delegations were sent by such universities as MISIS (32 people), Tyumen Industrial University (25), Samara Technical University, and Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (both 22 people). The total number of experts on the jury was 210, of whom 109 represented external companies, institutes, or professional communities.

All of them noted the relevance of the forum, which is organized annually by St. Petersburg Mining University and the International Center of Competences in Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO. Participation in it allows to get a serious competitive advantage in the labor market and, without exaggeration, becomes a springboard to adulthood.

The laureates of the competition, which in each category was from 5 to 10 people, got the right to represent Russia in the final, international stage of the conference “Topical Issues of subsoil use". It will take place from May 19 to 21, and its delegates will come from more than a hundred universities from Austria, Great Britain, Germany, China, Poland, France, and other countries.
