The students who completed their studies at the summer schools of St. Petersburg Mining University passed the baton to their peers from other universities. They were succeeded by 103 people from 25 higher educational institutions, members of the Nedra Consortium.

Specifically for the guests of the city on the Neva river, five educational programs composing both theoretical and practical studies were developed. One of them is “Environmental Safety of a Megapolis”. Within its framework, representatives of the Lomonosov Arctic University, Ugra University, and Tomsk Polytechnic Institute will study modern trends in the field of environmental protection. In particular, they will be told about advanced wastewater treatment and environmental monitoring technologies. A master-class with the sampling of water, soil, and air, as well as their preliminary analysis will be held in Yuntolovsky reserve.

One more course is dedicated to geomechanical support of underground works. It will be attended by young people studying in Voronezh, Ivanovo, Kazan, Samara, Saratov, and Ufa. Within two weeks in the Northern Capital, they will go down to the metro shaft to get acquainted with the construction of the Mining Institute station, take part in the round table in Lenmetrogiprotrans, solve an engineering case connected with the implementation of the development project in the conditions of dense urban building. This, of course, is only a small part of their schedule.

In total, the oldest technical school in Russia has developed 27 curricula, which were highly evaluated by foreign reference universities of the International Center of Competences in Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO from Austria, Germany, Finland, and other countries, as well as accredited by the British institute IOM3. That is, their quality has been recognized by one of the world’s most respected professional associations of engineers.

“Last week, the participants of the first stage of the Mining University summer schools, among whom there were not only Russians but also our Armenian and Belarusian partners, passed the attestation and received certificates of completion. All of them noted the high level of the university’s infrastructure and the curricula developed for them. There is no doubt that this format of academic cooperation is extremely effective. After all, it allows students from all the Russian universities, whose areas of training are connected with the production of personnel for the mineral sector, to have access to the infrastructure of the flagship institutions of higher education and learn about real production. This is very important for their further adaptation at the production if they choose the career of an engineer,” stressed Vladimir Borzenkov, Director General of the International Center of Competences in Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO.
