For an ordinary resident of St. Petersburg, the word Chechnya associates with something criminally dangerous. Or it sounds like a Russian analogue of the Middle Eastern monarchy. But there is a university in the Northern Capital of Russia, at which its scientists are well aware that the structure of the main industrial base of the Republic is oil. And for a good we can speak about a long-term cooperation with the republic. Graduates of the university have made a significant contribution to the development of the mineral and raw materials industry in Chechnya, to the exploration and development of oil and gas fields in the North Caucasus.

A regional representative office of the International Competence Center in Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO was established on the basis of SIBUR. The agreement was signed by the rector of the St. Petersburg Mining University Vladimir Litvinenko and the chairman of the board of SIBUR Holding Dmitry Konov.

Its task will be to improve the quality of higher education and scientific research aimed at increasing the efficiency of enterprises in the mineral resources sector.

The International Competence Centre for Mining-Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO was established on the premises of Saint Petersburg Mining University two years ago. Today, its role, like that of other Institutes and Centres under the auspices of UNESCO, lies in supporting the change of the global landscape, particularly through ensuring equal access to scientific achievements across the globe.

Experts and researchers representing virtually all post-industrial and developing countries, joined by the authorities of UNESCO, as part of the work of the International Competence Centre for Mining-Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO, presented an analysis of recent trends in the global energy market in their relation to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It was 16 years ago when the Forum-Contest ”Topical Issues of Rational Use of Natural Resources” was held by the Mining University for the first time. This year, the forum moved online, which, however, positively impacted both the number of contestants and the number of viewers.

On Thursday, July 9, the University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), located in Xuzhou, received the status of a peer university of the International Competence Center for Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO. The signing ceremony was held online. The ceremony was attended by Vladimir Litvinenko, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Competence Center, Song Xuefeng, President of the China University of Mining and Technology, and Kirill Molodtsov, Assistant to the Head of the Administration of the RF President.

According to the authors of the idea, the more accredited specialists will work in public mining companies, the higher will be the capitalization level of and confidence in those from the part of the international community.
