When Jacob Moharram was studying at school, he was an Air Force cadet. The dreams of becoming a pilot never came true nonetheless - all because of his height. So an Australian lad decided to study geology and mining instead, and as a study destination, to the surprise of many he chose Russia.

Bukasa Mukendi Pitchu, Associate Professor from the University of Namibia, got his PhD in Russia and continued his studies in Canada. Despite some 12 years have passed since the graduation date, he is still using tools and techniques he learn while studying in the Mining University. This January, he paid a visit to St. Petersburg. What was the purpose of his trip?

Austria is one of the leading European countries in terms of waste recycling: over 96% of its residents are sorting their trash. However, Austrian scientists and researchers do not stop and continue working on the new innovative solutions in the waste management sector - the recent one involves taking into use the power of artificial intelligence. This project and a few others are being developed by students and researchers of the University of Leoben (Montanuniversität Leoben).

It was a year ago when the launch of a large-scale waste management reform was announced in Russia.

What can be done to prevent questioning the quality of awarded degrees and what should Russian universities and research institutes do to handle the issue and facilitate introduction of new scientific developments into production?

One of the main topics of this year’s Russian-German Raw Materials Dialogue was cooperation prospects for the two countries, as they have been seeking for the ways to contribute to environmentally sustainable development and fight against the global warming.

The universities of St. Petersburg attract high school graduates from many regions of Russia and different countries all over the world. However, those students who have been admitted are facing a problem of finding a suitable housing. That is hardly a surprise that most of the newcomers tend to living in a dorm room, as this option is is a lot cheaper compared to apartment rental.

This autumn, the Russia-Africa Summit took place in Sochi, one of the most southern Russian cities. Over the course of two days the event lasted, a number of significant agreements were achieved.

Beirut, Damascus, Latakia, Batroun, Tripoli - what would you think of when seeing the list of those cities? Most likely, the first things that spring to mind are military operations and counterterrorism efforts; Russians are not the exception and have similar thoughts. What do Syrian and Lebanese people think of Russia though - in particular, about higher education in the country?
