Top management of Caterpillar paid a visit to St. Petersburg and met with Vladimir Litvinenko, Rector of the Mining University. The key topic of the meeting was linked to activities of the International Competence Centre for Mining-Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO.

The contest has been held by the UK-based Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) since 2005, when it took place for the first time. Students from different countries – China, Australia, Great Britain, South Africa among them – participate in this prestigious international competition.

The awarding ceremony of XV International Forum “Topical issues of rational use of natural resources” was held at the Mining University.

British IOM3 is invited as a partner of the Mining University to conduct qualifications assessments of mining staff.

Mining University and the London Stock Exchange came to agreement on working together in the area of assessing human resource capacities of mining companies. It is expected that cooperation will be carried out within the framework of activities of the International Competence Centre under the auspices of UNESCO.

Leonid Weisberg, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Research and Engineering Corporation ”Mekhanobr-Tekhnika” and also the Member of the Academy of Sciences, underlined the importance of inclusion of «The Journal of the Mining Institute» in the international database Scopus. Leonid Weisberg also gave his comments and provided his opinion on what it means for the scientific community.

Charles Hendry, a participant of the Russian-British Raw Materials Dialogue, held a lecture at the Mining University on the future of energy sector.

According to QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) Rankings in Mineral & Mining Engineering, Saint-Petersburg Mining University is in the top 20 for the third year in a row.
