Advanced IT solutions from the developer of Russia’s leading mining and geological information system are being integrated into the educational process as part of the new engineering training model.

On Tuesday, June 24, the official opening ceremony of the Geomix Classroom took place at the Second Training Center of Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University. The company furnished the room with modern furniture, computer and presentation equipment, and provided approximately 100 licensed keys for the use of GEOMIX, a cutting-edge domestic geological information system developed by the RT-Engineering holding, which includes Geomix LLC.

The system is designed to automate and digitize all processes related to the development of solid mineral deposits—from resource assessment and reserve approval to the implementation of the most efficient and safe operational solutions, through to mine closure and land reclamation.

«Today, we are not just opening a room equipped with state-of-the-art technology that allows students to develop practical skills. This is about uniting the efforts of the company and the university to address shared challenges that are critical for the country.

The new cooperation format initiated by the Mining University—Academic Partnership—goes beyond the traditional understanding of interaction between industry and academia. Under this model, the latest technologies used by the company are immediately reflected in the educational process. At the same time, the enterprise gains the opportunity to assess the students’ level of preparation from the very first year through to graduation—to identify the most promising, those with passion in their eyes and knowledge in their minds. This way, the employer has a clear picture of whom to eventually invite to join their team. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship» – said Rector Vladimir Litvinenko at the opening ceremony.

According to Oleg Nikishin, General Director of RT-Engineering (part of the Rostec Corporation), the holding implements large-scale, nationally significant EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects—delivered on a turnkey basis. The group includes its own design institute, suppliers of technological equipment, and construction divisions. Special emphasis is placed on IT systems, which are the responsibility of Geomix LLC. The company possesses exclusive technologies in the field of mineral extraction process modeling and plays a crucial role within the entire holding.

«These technologies will be shared with the Mining University for the training of mining industry personnel across the country» – said Oleg Nikishin.

Gimiran Utenov, General Director of Geomix LLC, emphasized that Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University is the leading institution in the field of mining and geological education. Its graduates are highly valued by industry enterprises, and it is important for the company that the best engineers—from Belgorod to Magadan—know and use Geomix software products.

«The Mining University serves as a platform for effective collaboration between software developers, mining and technology companies, science, and education. Its systemic role is crucial for joint efforts.

Graduates of the Mining University who work in our company make a significant contribution to the development of IT products—especially the Drilling and Blasting Design module on the new GEOMIX 2.0 platform. In turn, our employees are ready to teach courses and act as supervisors during industrial internships» – said Gimiran Utenov.

Let us recall that in May of this year, the company “Geomix” held a round table at Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University on the topic “Development of Mining and Geological Information Systems (MGIS) in Russia: Current Issues, Present State, and Prospects.” The event was organized within the framework of the International Scientific and Practical Forum “Innovative Approaches to the Design of Mining Enterprises: Safe and Efficient Development of Mineral Deposits.” The company acted as a co-organizer of this event.
