The Sablino–Mining Research and Education Centre for Technological Sites was visited on a working trip by Dmitry Bratynenko, Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Komi.
During the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2026, Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University and the Republic of Komi signed a cooperation agreement. The document is intended to serve as a roadmap for implementing joint programmes to train qualified specialists, attracting talented school students to participate in the “School Leader” project and the “Granite of Science” Olympiad. Combined with fundamental research, the partners view this cooperation as a foundation for the long-term development of the mineral resource base of the constituent entity of the Russian Federation.
Without delay, the parties have already begun taking concrete steps towards the declared objectives. Dmitry Bratynenko came to Sablino not only to inspect the training facility’s infrastructure, but also to work in detail on the areas of training, competencies, and occupations that students of the republic’s leading university, Ukhta State Technical University, could acquire here.
The guest was shown how young people could be trained using the URB-2D3 exploration drilling rig and the RS-90 drilling rig. He also visited the future core storage facility. The Head of the Government of the Republic of Komi also had an opportunity to operate a drilling rig on a simulator designed to replicate oil well drilling.
«The Republic of Komi is a vast and still insufficiently studied region. Today, we face the task of continuing to unlock this enormous economic potential. Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University can be called a stronghold and a scientific and technological base that contributes to the economic development of the region. For Komi, cooperation with the University is important above all in terms of training specialists. The region needs engineers who possess not only theoretical knowledge but also practical experience», Bratynenko noted.
