Scientists from Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University and Shiraz University held the first teleconference, during which they discussed the roadmap for the upcoming research of joint research groups. Their results will be concrete developments affecting a wide range of knowledge areas - increasing mining safety, developing renewable energy sources, improving the efficiency of wastewater treatment and much more.

This academic year, St. Petersburg Mining University commissioned two new dormitories for non-resident students. However, the term ”dormitory” in the usual sense of the word is not quite appropriate here. The conceptual difference is that young men and women who study at the first technical university in Russia no longer live in rooms, but in separate studios, reminiscent of rooms in a good hotel.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin put the new wintering complex of Vostok station into trial operation via video link. It is 1,200 kilometres from the nearest coast and is located on a lifeless ice plateau at an altitude of over three and a half kilometres.

The task of the delegation of the country’s first technical university, which worked for two days at VDNKh, was to popularise science and higher technical education.

The main topic of his meeting with Rector Vladimir Litvinenko was the search for mutually beneficial areas of partnership between our countries. First of all, it is about co-operation in such spheres as science, education and culture.

The Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University continues to implement a pilot project to improve the system of personnel training for the national economy. One of its characteristic features is the enrollment of students exclusively in the specialties of basic higher education with a study period of 5.5 years. In other words, bachelor’s degree is no longer included in the university curricula.

At the end of January 2024, a representative delegation from Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University spent a working week in Shiraz, the second capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at the invitation of Shiraz University. The administrators, scientists and young teachers studied in detail the methodology of the educational system of the country, its scientific component, visited the enterprises of Fars Province, held a number of negotiations with representatives of the university, industrialists, employees of state bodies.

In the context of a mobilised economy and the solidarity of the population with this position of the state, there is no other option but to build relations with industry, paraphrasing the slogan ”Everything for the front, everything for victory”. That is, any research or development should serve the task of intensive technological development of the country. In Iran, this is exactly the case.

In 1979, mass demonstrations against the Shah’s regime took place in Iran, resulting in Reza Pahlavi’s flight and a complete change in the country’s state system.
