For the seventh time, Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University participates in the inter-museum and university festival ”To Museum - Today, to Science - Tomorrow!”. During the week it will be visited by about 150 schoolchildren from different educational institutions of the city and region, as well as their parents and teachers.

Pupils of the ninth energy class of School No. 334, which was established last year by Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University in cooperation with Lenenergo, will implement their first serious scientific developments. They touch upon such areas of knowledge as economical distribution of energy resources in households, alternative energy generation options, increasing the efficiency of insulators for high-voltage transmission lines and a number of others.

Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University was paid a working visit by Mrs. Karin Kneissl, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria.

This is part of the programme to improve the environment for engineering training, including by creating the most comfortable environment for recreation and independent study of young people. On Friday, 15 March, the St. Petersburg Mining University informed that a large-scale renovation has started in dormitory No. 4, located at 15 Morskaya Embankment. At the moment dismantling works are underway in the building, the management plans to renew all communications, complete replacement of window and door blocks, finishing of floors, ceilings and walls, purchase of new furniture.

The Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University became a venue for the Grand Challenges scientific and technical works competition among talented schoolchildren of the Leningrad Region. As explained by the university management, this event is part of a global project to integrate the systems of higher and secondary education.

Vladimir Litvinenko, Rector of Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University, held a working meeting with Amon Murwira, Minister of Higher Education of Zimbabwe. On Tuesday, March 5, in the public reception room of presidential candidate Vladimir Putin, Rector of Mining University Vladimir Litvinenko, who is also a proxy of the head of state, held a meeting with students of Izhora College and representatives of the Youth Parliament of St. Petersburg. He recalled that during his address to the Federal Assembly on March 1, Vladimir Putin emphasized the issues of science and education, and stated the need to take additional measures to ensure that ”today’s teenagers become professionals in their field”.

Etienne Ségda is a student at Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University. He comes from a small country in West Africa called Burkina Faso. It ranks only 206th in terms of GDP, although it is a major exporter of gold, marble and manganese. Natural resource extraction is done mostly by foreigners.
