On Thursday, February 26, a decree of the President of Russia was signed on the creation of the "National Center for Personnel and Scientific Support of the Mineral Resources Complex "Corps of Mining Engineers".
The Center, based at Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University, will coordinate the activities of specialized universities in the development and implementation of educational programs for the advanced training of engineering, scientific-pedagogical, and scientific personnel for the mineral resources complex.
Among the Center’s principal functions is the provision of scientific and methodological support for the training of mining engineers by a consortium of specialized universities, including the professional development of academic staff. The Center will also establish and ensure the operation of networked technological sites (training facilities, practice bases, and educational demonstration centers) designed to develop and consolidate students’ practical skills in their respective specialties.
Furthermore, the decree entrusts Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University with the organization and conduct of scientific research in the field of subsoil use, including at the Russian Antarctic station "Vostok," as well as scientific research in the field of deep metageology.
This work will be accompanied by the preparation of analytical materials regarding the state of personnel and scientific support for the mineral resources complex, the development of proposals for forming a system of professional accreditation for mining engineers, the conducting of professional and public accreditation of educational programs, and the analysis of international experience in personnel training for the mineral resources complex and scientific research in this field.
