Saint-Petersburg Mining University stands out among other universities of the city. Today the University boasts a unique combination of the richest tradition and modern state-of-the-art technologies. The well-developed infrastructure and high competence of academic staff provide the University graduates with the best education in oil, gas and mining fields.

Among 800 world universities within the field of Mineral & Mining Engineering education the Mining University holds the 16th position according to QS World University Rankings. There are students and graduate students from more than 70 countries at the Mining University. Students and graduate students enjoy high standards of education, internships and scientific research.

More than 15, 000 students study across the University campuses. This includes about 700 international students who contribute to the University’s diverse, supportive and inclusive campus community.

The University also provides a pre-university program for overseas students where they study the Russian language for a semester or a year.

300 thousand square meters is the total area of the Mining University campus, and more than 100 thousand square meters have either been built or renovated during the last 10 years.
Academic and research activities of the University are held on the three beautiful campuses on Valilyevsky island:

Training center 1, the 21st liniya of the Vasilyevsky Island, 2.

Training center 2, Srednyi Prospect of the Vasilyevsky Island, 82.

Training center 3, Malyi Prospect of the Vasilyevsky Island, 83, litera A, B. The new engineering building was opened in 2015. It accommodates 140 classrooms, 20 scientific laboratories, as well as modern sports facilities.

The Library of the Mining University has the richest collection of Russian and foreign scientific books, textbooks and journals including the rarities of the 14th century. Today it holds the collection of 1,200,000 items on mining, geology, metallurgy, natural and technical sciences in Russian and in more than 20 languages.

The University boasts a number of dedicated and specialized laboratories and research centers across a wide range of disciplines: the laboratories of environmental monitoring, oil and gas laboratories, the laboratories of Orica (Australian multinational corporation, the world's largest producer of explosives), the laboratories of Schneider Electric (a European multinational corporation that specializes in energy management, automation solutions, etc).

60 laboratories and 7 scientific training areas are part of one of the best scientific and laboratory facilities among Russian universities.

Our university is one of the most beautiful ones in Russia, it is distinguished by the most modern equipment and magnificent infrastructure with modern facilities. In addition to beautiful and comfortable classrooms, majestic halls and its own museum, there are many cafes and canteens.

A special pride of the Mining University is Gornyi multifunctional complex, which holds national and international scientific congresses, conferences and symposia as well as foreign language courses, and also accommodates students, professors and guests of our city.

At the university there are 8 comfortable modern hostels for students, which accommodate more than 3 thousand people and are located next to the educational buildings. The hostels offer all the conditions for comfortable living: renovated rooms, laundries, dining rooms, gyms, computer classes, security. Not more than three people share one hostel room.

50 large multinational companies cooperate with the University. Its graduates are employed by the largest Russian and international companies engaged in prospecting, exploration, extraction and processing of natural resources — oil, gas, precious metals, ferrous and non-ferrous ores, diamonds, precious stones, among them Fosagro, British Petroleum, Gazprom, Rosneft, Gazpromneft, Surgutneftegaz, Russian Copper Company and others.

The students of the Mining University have many opportunities for leisure activities to have fun: parties and events dedicated to professional and national holidays, the Student Spring festival of amateur activities. Learning the history of Russia, Russian customs and traditions is an important part of life at the university. Regular visits to the city theaters, concerts and museums are organized by the University.

There is also Gornyak (Miner), the international friendship club in the Mining University, a youth organization that unites our university's students from Russia and abroad, boosts their interest in intercultural networking. Mining University students also enjoy access to the University’s sport facilities: a modern 25-meter pool for 6 lines, a climbing wall, training halls for martial arts, gyms, etc.

The Mining University provides students with the best opportunities and practical experiences, empowering them with transferable knowledge and skills that will prepare them to exceed expectations throughout their careers.
