First fourteen students arrived at Saint-Petersburg from AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland. Its representatives plan to enhance their skills and broaden the knowledge of contemporary drilling technologies as well as oil & gas transportation and storage.
Leading professors of the Mining University will give lectures, hold seminars and master classes for the Polish guests as a part of the summer school’s curriculum.
Furthermore, the program will also include practical training at the Mining University’s training facility in Sablino.
“We want to give the participants as much information on drilling technologies as possible. We are going to work in our labs, practice on a simulator and visit the training facility in Sablino where we will familiarize the students with various drilling machinery and give them a chance to try everything firsthand. There is also a cultural program planned - tours in St. Petersburg and the surrounding area”, said Associate Professor of Drilling department Pavel Blinov.
Krakow’s AGH University of Science and Technology is an old partner of the Mining University. Its graduate students do regular internships in Poland while the Polish scholars themselves traditionally participate at young scientists’ competition “Topical Issues of Rational Use of Natural Resources”, held at the Mining University. This year AGH representatives won the gold prize in “Equipment, transportation and energy efficiency of raw material complex production” nomination also receiving two other silver-grade diplomas.
According to the guests integration of different universities worldwide is, without a doubt, improving the quality of education. While participating at events such as international forums and summer schools held at foreign countries not only rises the competence level of students, but also gives them an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the host country’s culture.
Three more schools are about to open at the Mining University soon. Students from Lebanese International University will study “Engineering Geodesy”. Lanzhou University students (China) will takes courses on “Innovations and perspectives of mining machinery and electromechanics development”. And representatives of Freiberg University of Mining and Technology are going to travel to Crimea to the Mining University training facility in town of Beregovoe, Bakhchysarai Raion region.
