Andradite is a mineral, which to a great extent resembles in appearance pomegranate seeds. This mineral can widely vary in colours. Its colour range can be anywhere between maroon and intense emerald-green. The colour palette of andradite is enormously rich.
It is possible to spot a deep black, purple, eggshell green and even orange andradite. In the Mining Museum collection an extremely rare and valuable andradite type is presented – uvarovite. Thanks to an unusually deep green color, it is often called Uralian emerald. It was named in the honour of a famous Russian scientist Graf Uvarov. In St. Petersburg’s Museum it is also possible to get a hold of a hessonite – honey-yellow andradite, which was found in Italy.
