Caterpillar’s top management paid a working visit to Saint-Petersburg Mining University

Top management of Caterpillar paid a visit to St. Petersburg and met with Vladimir Litvinenko, Rector of the Mining University. The key topic of the meeting was linked to activities of the International Competence Centre for Mining-Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO.

According to Denise Johnson, Caterpillar Group President "For us, a high level of integration between Caterpillar and our local dealer Zeppelin, who represents Caterpillar in the European part of Russia, is very important. The development of staff competencies is a systematic and also continuous work, essential for any enterprise aiming at increasing profitability. Therefore, one of the goals of our visit to Russia was to make another step towards a serious partnership with the Mining University, as we count on the University’s participation in the competency-based staff selection and training. Apart from that, we are also interested in cooperation in the field of innovative developments as well as new mining solutions".

During the visit, the company’s representatives got acquainted with the curriculum of the university and the content of training programs, in particular, with programs focusing on the transportation of mined rock and use of mining equipment. Mrs. Johnson suggested to supplement those programs with educational guides and manuals the company incorporated into its own staff development programs. Caterpillar is also ready to provide own relevant business cases. Analyzing business case studies will help students to better understand and master field knowledge. Both Caterpillar and the Mining University agreed on a choice of the facility in Tosno as a location for training sessions.

Next, as agreed, American corporation supplies the Mining University with computers and software, some structural components of the machinery and virtual simulators that imitate work processes.
