Russia’s first technical university ranked the top in the ranking of domestic institutions of higher education in international rankings.
On Thursday, March 4, the Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko sent a welcome address to the Mining University Rector Vladimir Litvinenko, in which she congratulated "the faculty, students, graduate students, employees and graduates of the university with a high international ranking". This is her reaction to the updated results of the QS subject rankings, which are published annually in early spring. St. Petersburg Mining University was ranked 12th in the Engineering - Mineral & Mining category, improving its last year’s result by six points in one go.
"The first technical university in Russia still maintains its position as one of the leaders in the country, which is confirmed by the results of the subject ranking of the British agency QS. It is especially important that this is not a one-time success, but a long-term trend, because Mining University has been in the top 20 of this prestigious ranking for the fifth year in a row", said Valentina Matvienko.
According to her, the university was able to achieve such a significant success by combining the richest traditions, passed down from generation to generation, and modern technology. This allows “to train qualified specialists, able to think creatively and broadly, who are in demand in modern realities.”
“The pride of the university is its staff, enthusiastic, talented people, whose scientific developments have received worldwide fame and recognition. I am sure that Mining University will continue to be a true forge of personnel and will continue to make a significant contribution to the development of the domestic mineral resource complex... I wish you not to rest on your laurels, always move forward and conquer any heights," summed up the Speaker of the Federation Council.
It should be noted that Quacquarelli Symonds, along with THE and ARWU, is one of the world’s three most respected agencies involved in grading higher education institutions. A total of 1,453 educational institutions were ranked by QS this year, 85 more than in 2020. 588 of them are represented in the Engineering - Mineral & Mining.
