Following the British QS, the second of the world’s three most authoritative companies for grading institutions of higher education noted the progress of St. Petersburg Mining University.

On Tuesday, March 9, the Times Higher Education magazine, whose editorial office is in London, published a new ranking of universities in emerging economies. The ranking included 606 universities from 46 nations, 14 percent more than a year earlier (533). The most significant results were achieved by representatives of Russia and China, which shared 47 positions in the first hundred of the chart.

St. Petersburg Mining University climbed from 167th to 64th place. This is one of the most significant breakthroughs, the reason for which, above all, was the growth of publication activity and recognition in the scientific and educational community.

“This year the best progress among the universities entering the top 100 for the first time was shown by Bauman Moscow State Technical University (63rd place) and St.Petersburg Mining University (64th place) which improved their results for more than 100 positions,” noted Phil Baty, THE chief knowledge specialist.

THE ranking is formed based on a maximum number of indicators. Among them are the academic reputation in education and research, the ratio of teachers and students, the income of the university, including the implementation of the results of scientific research in production, citations, and others.

Let us remind that earlier the company Quacquarelli Symonds announced its updated subject ranking, according to the results of which St. Petersburg Mining University ranked 12th in the discipline “Engineering - Mining & Minerals”, improving its previous achievement by 6 positions. It became a record. In the history of ranking, Russian universities have never before been in the top dozen of such a prestigious chart.
