The summer season of the sports and health camp for students of St. Petersburg Mining University has come to an end. The level of organization and success of the project can be judged by the reviews and photos of its direct participants.
The training base on the shore of Lake Kavgolovskoye, designed for educational training for a wide range of geological specialities, for the first time was used for a full recreation for students of the university. Till this time, only various hydrometric observations and studies of the physical and mechanical properties of rocks were conducted at the training ground, but a serious reconstruction and repair of buildings allowed to significantly expand the functionality of the base. There appeared modern rooms for double occupancy, a canteen, sports halls for basketball, volleyball, badminton and table tennis, a gym and a sauna.
By the way, from a historical point of view, the location has returned to its origins. Before 1917, the Kavgolovskoye neighbourhoods were called “St. Petersburg Switzerland:" the elevation difference formes picturesque hills that descend to the sandy beach. In the 1930s, one of the first pioneer camps in the USSR was located at Krestovaya Mountain. During the Great Patriotic War, the 44th Aviation Bomber Regiment and an ice airfield were based here, and after the war, a ski base of the Leningrad Mining Institute, which later became its training ground.
This year, the Russian oldest technical school awarded 160 students for high academic performance and active participation in scientific activities, sports, and cultural life of the university with package tours to the sports and health camp.
The recreation program included Funny Starts competitions and kayak races, horseback riding lessons, trips to the rope park Walnut and the Zubrovnik ecotourism complex. Excursions to one of the most ancient cities of the country - Veliky Novgorod and “Swedish-Finnish” Vyborg composed the cognitive part of leisure.
Today, the participants of both the first and the second shifts are sharing their impressions of their holiday on social networks.
“These were the most socially fulfilling days of this summer. Thank you very much for the very good organization of such an event!” Pavel Suslikov, a multiple winner of the CASE-IN International Engineering Championship and the Global Energy Development Forecast competition, wrote.
“It would be no exaggeration to say that the past week was one of the best of my life. The atmosphere of summer camp, forgotten since childhood, melded with the consciousness of being a student. Well-thought-out activities, from the ropes park to kayaking, brought the spirit of adventure and extreme sports to our vacation and united our team even more. The most important thing that I realized during this time: the university is not just an institution where you get higher education. It’s a place where you become a personality, where you get a unique opportunity to find true teammates. And I’m very grateful to our Mining University. Vivat!" wrote in his review Yuri Laptenok, an “A" grade student.
“Everything was perfect, from the intense excursions to the trampoline battles, when you come out all wet from having put in all your hard work. Honestly, every day I thought, ‘Did I really deserve all this beauty?’ I am sure that such rewards for good grades, merit in sports, and other distinctions are necessary things to raise the educational level of students. This will be a great motivation to study even harder in the future!” thanked Konstantin Petrukhnenko.
