Along with QS and ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, it is one of the three most respected agencies whose recognition is considered an indisputable indicator of a university’s success.

On Tuesday, October 19, the Times Higher Education (THE) published the results of its annual international ranking of institutions of higher education in emerging economies, The Emerging Economies University Rankings.

The rankings include 698 universities from 50 countries and regions, including Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and South America. According to experts, the best results this year showed Russia, India, and China.

To be included in the ranking, it is necessary to comply with many requirements. For example, the number of scientific articles prepared by representatives of the university should not be less than 150 a year and no less than 1000 in the period from 2016 to 2020. In addition, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research is encouraged. According to the established rules, more than 80% of the research cannot fall exclusively into one of the 11 subject areas of the ranking.

For the most comprehensive and balanced comparison that students, scholars, and university and business leaders would trust, the organizers have developed a scoring system of 13 performance criteria grouped into five areas. These are quality of education and research, citations, international outlook, and R&D revenues.

"This year, Mining University ranked 75th in the global rankings of The Emerging Economies University Rankings. This is a good result, especially since we were not part of the Project 5-100 state subsidy program aimed at increasing the competitiveness of domestic universities in the international educational services market. Traditionally, the strengths of Mining University are the citation rate of scientists’ publications and the volume of financial proceeds from technology and development transfer. According to these indicators, we surpass many of our colleagues, which does not go unnoticed by the British agency THE,” said Vladimir Borzenkov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of Mining University.

The oldest technical university in the country confirms its high position in world rankings year after year. Let us remind you that this year it won 12th place in the international subject ranking of QS agency in the “Engineering - Mineral & Mining” discipline, improving its last year's achievement by six points. In addition, in September it became known that it was among the top five Russian universities in the global ranking THE.
