The St. Petersburg Mining University continues short-term educational programs, which the university organizes together with the International Competence Centre for Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO. Students from ten foreign countries participate in the summer schools. Representatives of technical universities will take a course of lectures in the online format, and then a full-time practice in St. Petersburg.

The Mining University has prepared lecture courses for students of universities of Consortium "Nedra", as well as partner universities, including representatives of Ecuador, Peru, Cuba, China, Lebanon, Namibia, India, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia. They will be studying the programs on the priority directions of the mineral complex research in English: "Modern Mining Technologies", "Geomechanics in Mineral Deposit and Underground Mining", "Modern Trends in Oil and Gas Industry", "Pipeline Transportation of Oil and Gas: Theory and Practice", "Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Energy", "Technology of Oil and Gas Well Construction", "Economics and Management of Oil and Gas Companies in Modern Reality". More than 240 attendees will take part in the fall session season.

"After listening to a course of lectures online, students will have the opportunity to visit St. Petersburg, where they will be evaluated, do laboratory work and get acquainted with our equipment and the scientific and technical base of Russian education. They will also visit the newest laboratories and scientific centers of the Mining University, enterprises of mining and oil and gas complexes and see how the university developments are applied" - comments Vladimir Borzenkov, Director General of the International Competence Centre for Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO.

This time the Mining University hosted more than 40 students from Latin America, a region with which it actively develops cooperation. For example, on 11 October Valeria Quiroz, Mining University representative in the region, held a working meeting with the Dean of the Faculty of Geology and Petroleum of the National Polytechnic School of Ecuador. The purpose of the meeting was for international students to participate in future Mining University Summer Schools.

"Of course, we want our students to have the opportunity to participate in the Mining University Summer School, we will provide the conditions for this project," assured Dr. Pedro Santiago Reyes Benitez.

Johnny Robinson Zambrano Carranza, head of the Department of Geology at the National Polytechnic School, also expressed his interest in a renewed scientific exchange and joint research between the two universities.

"The National Polytechnic School ranks third in the QS rankings in Ecuador. It is the second oldest public university in the country, and there has been a protocol of intent to collaborate between it and St. Petersburg Mining University since 2017. The agreement includes undergraduate and graduate studies abroad, exchanges, internships, courses and practices. Now we are also actively working on conducting joint research," comments Valeria Quiroz.

Earlier, she had held talks with Mr. Janiel Waskex, head of the Institute of Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences at Yachai University.

Last year, students from both universities in Ecuador were already taking distance learning courses at the Mining University. 15 representatives of the National Polytechnic University studied physical chemistry, a course on chemical engineering in oil and gas, and in the summer six students from Moa University (Cuba), National University of Colombia and Yachay University (Ecuador) studied mining, geoecology, oil and gas drilling, and also took courses on digital mining, environmental safety of megacities and modern technologies of oil and gas drilling.

This fall season of the summer school has a unique format. In addition to the full-time practical part, the most motivated international students will have the opportunity to participate in the international conference "Nature Management and Conservation of World Natural Heritage" in St. Petersburg. In the city on the Neva they will discuss a wide range of questions concerning the responsible use of natural resources and conservation of natural heritage sites. The event will take place on December 1-4 in the Mining University within the framework of the International Forum dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention.
