They will include high-ranking politicians, scientists, energy and mining executives, as well as undergraduate and graduate students. The largest numbers of participants are expected to come from China, India, and Iran. The event was organised in cooperation with the International Competence Centre in Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO.
International Forum "Management of natural resources and conservation of the world natural heritage", which will be held at the St. Petersburg Mining University, is devoted to the 50th anniversary of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Its participants will come to the city on the Neva to exchange experience in implementing technologies that minimize the anthropogenic impact on the environment and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as to declare their willingness to consolidate efforts in this direction.
On the Russian side, the opening ceremony of the conference to be held on December 2 will be attended by Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister, Vladimir Litvinenko, Rector of Mining University, leading expert in the field of fuel and energy, Grigory Ordzhonikidze, Executive Secretary of the Russian Commission for UNESCO, and Alexander Beglov, the Governor of the Northern Capital.
The geography of foreign delegates is as wide as never before, from Ecuador in the West to China in the East. Thus, the guests of the University will be heads of the University of Namibia Kenneth Matengu and the Central University of Ecuador Fernando Sempertegui Ontaneda, ambassadors of India and China, students from Peru, Cuba, Lebanon, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and other countries, who earlier took part in the University's summer schools in the online format. The purpose of their visit to St. Petersburg, in addition to participation in the forum, is to consolidate the knowledge gained during the lectures in practice.
The delegation from Iran is headed by Mohammad Moazeni, Rector of Shiraz University, one of the country's most prestigious institutions of higher education, and Mohammad Hadi Imanieh, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Islamic Republic and Governor of Fars Province. It will also include Seyyed Mohammad Ali Fatemi, General Director of Fateh Group Oil and Gas Company, deputy ministers of oil, education and mining, and the heads of several leading universities in Iran.
More than a thousand people are going to take part in the conference, and about 600 of them will arrive to St. Petersburg personally. Their main task will be to work out solutions aimed at increasing the sustainability of human development, i.e. to increase the efficiency of extraction and processing of natural resources and simultaneously reduce the negative impact of the mineral resources complex on ecosystems.
