He was awarded such a high award for his great services in scientific and pedagogical activities, training of qualified specialists and many years of diligent work.

On Tuesday, December 27, on the margins of the informal summit of the CIS leaders, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with the rector of St. Petersburg Mining University, Vladimir Litvinenko, during which he presented him with the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, 2nd class.

Vladimir Litvinenko is a laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation and the Russian government in science and technology, a renowned scientist, author of more than 150 scientific publications, including 5 monographs, coauthor of 47 patents (including foreign) for inventions. He is a leading expert in the field of fuel and energy and mineral resources complexes.

His research interests include such topics as increasing the professional competence of engineers by creating a system of lifelong learning; drilling in the permafrost zone and on the Arctic Ocean shelf; increasing the efficiency of traditional energy resources and minimizing their negative impact on the biosphere; hydrogen technologies; and climate change.

Earlier, the rector of Russia's oldest technical university was awarded the Orders of Honor and "For Services to the Fatherland" IV and III degrees. He also has the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called for his contribution to the development of Russia's mineral resources complex.
