Among the most promising areas include cooperation in science and technology, as well as increasing academic mobility.
On Friday, July 7, it became known that President of Imam Hussein University Mohammad Reza Hasani paid a working visit to the Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University. During the meeting with Rector Vladimir Litvinenko, he told about the current research conducted by the scientists of the Iranian university and presented his vision of the prospects of cooperation between the two institutions of higher education.
As the guest noted, in the Islamic Republic today much attention is paid to scientific research in the field of enhanced oil recovery. And this vector can undoubtedly become one of the reference points for the creation of collaborations. Joint projects aimed at improving the efficiency of development and exploitation of ore deposits can be no less interesting for both parties.
Vladimir Litvinenko assured his colleague that the Mining University was interested in developing partnership relations with the Iranian university. He invited Mr. Hasani to discuss a specific roadmap at the level of leading professors and heads of departments, which would help establish horizontal ties and identify areas of research that would be truly mutually beneficial. According to preliminary agreements, such a meeting, which will be attended by a delegation of 20-30 people from Tehran, should take place in the city on the Neva. Within its framework it is planned to sign a contract of intentions, which will become the foundation of the future partnership.
At the end of the meeting Mohammad Reza Hasani said that he had heard about the reform of higher education, which has been launched in Russia, as well as the fact that the Mining University is one of the six pilot universities, where its implementation has already begun. He expressed support for the initiative and said that excessive piety to American and European standards had once had a negative impact on the quality of Iranian higher education.
"After the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, our leader called the implementation of an optimal model for the development of higher education the most important factor in the socio-economic progress of the country. Because any conflicts sooner or later come to an end, but universities remain. And the sustainability of the entire society largely depends on the ability of the system to train competent personnel demanded by the state. Including scientists and engineers. Our experience shows that Western models do not contribute to achieving this goal, as they are designed to solve somewhat different tasks," said Mr. Hasani.
Recall that in December last year, the rectors of St. Petersburg Mining University, Vladimir Litvinenko, and one of Iran's most prestigious institutions of higher education, Shiraz University, Mohammad Moazeni, signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The parties pledged to "strive to create favorable conditions for the development of bilateral relations and further expansion of partnership in order to stimulate innovative, educational and scientific activities".
