Ambassador of India to Russia Pavan Kapoor paid a working visit to the Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University. He donated more than 50 books on the culture, religion, art and language of his country to the university, and discussed with Rector Vladimir Litvinenko the prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the field of science and education.
During the opening ceremony of the India Corner, which took place in the University Library, Mr Ambassador stressed that "this event symbolises the mutual desire of the two sides to develop mutually beneficial partnership relations". In addition, he described as encouraging the fact that students and staff of the University will now be able to learn more about one of the most ancient civilisations of the East. After all, "such an opportunity will undoubtedly contribute to integration processes."
Rector Vladimir Litvinenko during his meeting with Pavan Kapoor noted the need to increase bilateral academic mobility. First of all, intensification of student exchange within the framework of short-term educational programmes.
"Modern drilling equipment has been installed at our oil and gas proving ground in Sablino. Students of Gorny and partner universities undergo familiarisation and production practice there, and get an opportunity to study the technological processes they will need to manage later. We are ready to host young people who are studying to become oil engineers in India, and to design their curricula in such a way that they combine both theoretical and practical training," Vladimir Litvinenko suggested as one of the ideas.
He also discussed co-operation within the BRICS international association with the guest. As you know, its next summit is scheduled to be held in Kazan. At the same time, a Forum of Future Leaders of the BRICS countries, i.e. a gathering of promising young people, will be held in St Petersburg at the Mining University. The Rector and the Indian Ambassador to Russia agreed to work out this proposal in detail and make every possible effort to put it into practice.
