The teams of the oldest technical university of the country have repeatedly won these competitions at the All-Russian level in the past years.
Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University summarized the results of the qualifying stage of the student league of the International Engineering Championship "CASE-IN", which is held by the Foundation "Reliable Change". About fifty teams took part in its five nominations, they solved problems related to the choice of optimal strategies for the development of specific industries or even sectors of the Russian economy.
In order to make the tasks as close to reality as possible, representatives of such domestic flagships as Rosseti, Alrosa, Rusal, Metropolis, and others acted as their authors. For example, the case for the Oil and Gas Business area was prepared by Yakutsk Fuel and Energy Company, the main gas producer in the Republic of Sakha.
The young people had to find the most effective option for further operation of a field where there is a decrease in well flow rate. That is, to analyze the situation and justify what actions should be taken to change the negative trend.
According to experts, the best solution was proposed by the PetroVision team. According to its member Veniamin Pashkov, the guys immediately agreed not to consider any half-measures, but to offer as a guide to action a complete modernization of the field based on the principles of lean production.
"Our project includes not only drilling of new directional wells, but also full automation of the whole process of production and transportation of raw materials, which will reduce the downtime of equipment and exclude from the path of the product those stages that do not add value to it," - said Veniamin Pashkov.
Team captain Nikita Epifanov specified that today artificial intelligence plays an increasingly important role in various spheres of human activity. It was its implementation that became the foundation on which the solution of the winners of the qualifying stage was built.
"We proposed to install the maximum number of sensors that continuously record information from various equipment, including drilling rigs, downhole pumps and so on. Artificial intelligence is responsible for its interpretation, storage and comparative analysis for optimizing production processes, warning of errors and possible malfunctions. This will improve logistics, increase the efficiency of response to abnormal situations, and reduce the number of downtimes due to accidents," Nikita Epifanov believes.
The task proposed by Rosseti experts, who were responsible for the case study in the Electric Power Industry category, required students to develop a list of technical and organizational measures aimed at improving the reliability of power grids nationwide. The winner in this nomination was the "Hot Reserve" team.
Its member Daniil Rasputin says that the winners' project is a symbiosis of application of synchronized vector measurements and digital survey maps for consumers. All received data are stacked on a single server, and "a neural network searches for correlations between parameter changes and technological violations".
"Survey cards are an important element of the monitoring system, as they allow to determine the presence of equipment defects with high probability and accuracy," specified another team member Valeria Vorobyova.
It should be reminded that the team of St. Petersburg Mining University WeWatt has won the All-Russian Engineering Championship "CASE-IN" four times in the past years. In addition, students of the first technical university of our country have won six times another tournament, which is also organized by the "Nadezhda Shmenya" Charitable Foundation - the "Youth Global Energy Forecast" contest.
