The university has a total of 10 buildings where students and PhD students live. All of them are located on Vasilievsky Island, i.e. in walking distance from the academic buildings.

On Tuesday, June 11, it became known that dormitories № 4 and 5 of Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University, on Nalichnaya Street, 28 and Morskaya Embankment, 15, will open their doors in August. Now finishing works are being completed there, on the total area of more than 20 thousand square meters.

The task to increase the comfort class of the rooms was not in front of the builders, as for this purpose it would be necessary to dismantle or move bearing structures, which is strictly prohibited. Therefore, after the completion of works the rooms will still be designed for 2 or 3 people with a common kitchen for the whole floor, but, of course, they will become much more aesthetic and presentable.

But in those buildings, which the university builds from scratch, the arrangement of rooms is at a different level. For example, in the dormitories on the 18th line and Nalichnaya, 24, which were commissioned last year, they are separate studio apartments with their own bathroom and “cooking area”. In addition, the buildings have gyms and laundry rooms, and one of them is even next door and connected by a covered passageway to academic building No. 3, where junior classes are held.

"We do our best to create a comfortable environment where future engineers, scientists or educators can concentrate on accumulating knowledge and not be distracted by any mundane details. Studying is very hard work that requires diligence, patience and self-discipline, not only during lectures, but also afterwards, during independent studies. Our task is to help young people to become competitive specialists in demand in the labor market, including through continuous improvement of the quality level of infrastructure. This is one of the most important areas of our work, along with improving the training process and scientific research,” emphasized Rector of Mining University Vladimir Litvinenko.

After the reconstruction of two dormitories is completed, the total number of beds available to students of Russia's oldest higher technical education institution will be 5,363. And their deficit, depending on the number of non-resident applicants who will be admitted to the first year, is about 800. The minimum cost of accommodation in the next academic year is set at 2 thousand rubles per month, the best rooms in terms of price/quality ratio cost about 5-7 thousand.

Despite the fact that over the last 10 years Mining University has built 5 new buildings for student accommodation, there are still not enough places for everyone. And some guys have to rent them in the interuniversity campus, located quite far from Vasilyevsky Island.

The best way to avoid this necessity is to participate in the School Leader contest, which, among other advantages, provides the winners with a guaranteed enrollment in Mining University about a month earlier than the end of the admission campaign. And also a priority right to choose a room in the dormitory.
