In 2 years, the oldest higher technical educational institution in Russia will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the first graduation of Russian engineers.

On Thursday, June 27, the best graduates of this year were honored at the Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University. A total of 1,908 students graduated from the university, 279 boys and girls came out of their alma mater with red diplomas. These documents, without any doubt, will be an excellent starting point for them on the way to building a successful career trajectory. After all, they serve as convincing proof that these guys turned out to be the most competitive and received all the necessary set of competencies for future engineers, scientists or teache.

According to Yulia Lavrinyuk, the best graduate of the Faculty of Economics, we are talking not only about knowledge and skills, but also about the rich experience of public work and the need for a healthy lifestyle "instilled" in the first year. She herself, for example, is engaged in taekwondo and kickboxing, plays for the university team, which has repeatedly won various competitions. By the way, the girl does not plan to say goodbye to her team, as well as to Gorny in general. She has already applied for further studies in specialized higher education programs, which replaced the Master's degree.

«I certainly support all the transformations that are taking place now in the curricula of our university, and in the future they will be implemented in other educational institutions of the country. In my opinion, it is especially valuable that specialized higher education, unlike a master's degree, provides for an increase in the time allotted for mastering practical skills. I often heard from employees of the production facilities where I did internships that young people who find jobs after graduating from university are sorely missed. I think that the pilot project will change the situation and in the long term will have a positive impact on the labor market in such important sectors for the economy as the fuel and energy sector and the mineral resource complex. It's only a matter of time.», - Yulia Lavrenyuk believes.

Among other advantages of the Mining University, she mentioned the great attention that the teaching staff pays to the formation of students as young scientists. All students who are interested in research have the opportunity to join real research teams already in their junior years and participate in laboratory experiments in order to create new technologies.

«The environment that has been formed in our university is really motivating, and allows you not only to get a specialty, in my case, to become a professional economist, but also to achieve success in some other areas. For example, I founded a student scientific community to promote research work among students. During the lessons, I show them with concrete examples that being a scientist is very exciting. In the future, I want to become a teacher, so this experience will certainly help me, both in terms of personal and professional growth», - Julia says.

160 representatives of other countries who graduated from the university took part in the graduation ceremony of the Mining University. Among them was Stanislav Azarenko, a citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the best graduate from among foreign students. He found it somewhat difficult to answer the question of what he remembered most during his years of study, because, according to him, there were a lot of vivid impressions left.

«I remember all the summer practices, including industrial ones, because, thanks to them, I realized the true value of the work and knowledge that I gained during the five years I spent at the University of Mines, at the Geological Exploration Faculty. I remember with pleasure the lectures on mineralogy and crystal optics. I would like to express my gratitude to the entire faculty of the ITUC department for the work and time invested in us, as well as to all the staff who helped us adapt to another country, which is not always easy. Our studies were difficult and intense, but we managed to do everything: learn the subtleties of science, play sports, and participate in various creative competitions», - Stanislav Azarenka summarized.

It should be recalled that last year St. Petersburg Mining University celebrated its 250th anniversary. The decree on its foundation was signed by Catherine II, whose name was given to the university by President Vladimir Putin on the eve of the anniversary. As almost all historians and experts admit, the Empress's decision was extremely relevant and timely. After all, it allowed Russia to start training its own competent specialists who can improve the efficiency of exploitation of mineral deposits and create domestic technologies for the extraction and processing of raw materials.
