The opening ceremony of the summer school, the program of which was created specifically for guests from Xuzhou, was attended by the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in the city on the Neva, Mr. Luo Zhanhui.
On Monday, July 15, a short-term educational course for students of the China University of Mining and Technology started at the Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University. Over the next two weeks, they will not only attend lectures, but also take part in several master classes, hone their skills on simulators, and get acquainted with the work of a number of operating enterprises and organizations in the northern capital during practical trips.
These will include, for example, a mountain rescue station, the Smart Work training ground of GASU University and a metro station under construction. Theoretical classes will be devoted to the study of modern technologies used in the development and operation of deposits of solid minerals. In particular, the creation of digital twins, the use of neural networks, risk analysis in mine design, assessment of profitability of deposits, innovations in the field of mineral processing.
The delegation from China devoted its first day in St. Petersburg to getting acquainted with the infrastructure of the oldest technical university in Russia. The guests particularly noted "the combination of luxurious historical interiors and advanced educational tools, which is atypical for most higher education institutions." Including simulators that simulate various production processes using augmented and virtual reality technologies. The opportunity to take part in them directly, wearing 3D glasses and without leaving the audience, is extremely important at the initial stage of professional development.
Consul General of China Luo Zhanhui said that he took up his post only two months ago. However, this time was enough for him to feel the atmosphere of hospitality that reigns in the city on the Neva, and also to be convinced of the "sincere desire of St. Petersburg residents to maintain and develop good-neighborly relations with the PRC."
During a meeting with Vladimir Litvinenko, which preceded the opening ceremony of summer schools, Luo Zhanhui noted the importance of science and education for the progress of any country. He also called universities "incubators of high technologies" and assured that the visit to the Mining University was an unconditional confirmation of this maxim for him.
«China is implementing a comprehensive development policy. As a true philosopher and strategist, you are well aware of this, you are well aware of the international situation in general, and you understand in which specific areas Russian-Chinese cooperation can benefit both sides. I am, without any doubt, ready to contribute to the development of this partnership, including in terms of the integration of the academic community of our countries. This is an extremely important area, because if education is strong, then the state will be powerful», - The Consul General of the People's Republic of China in St. Petersburg addressed the Rector.
Vladimir Litvinenko stressed that students from China annually participate in short-term educational programs at the University of Mines. Projects related to longer academic exchanges are also being implemented. In addition, the parties are working on creating collaborations to conduct research and publish joint articles in highly rated scientific journals.
Returning to the topic of summer schools, it should be noted that the Mining University has been conducting internships in this format for 6 years. During this time, about 4 thousand students and postgraduates from all over the world, as well as domestic partner universities, have become participants. The initiative is being implemented with the support of the International Center of Competence in Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO.
