Platov South-Russian State Polytechnic University (SRSPU) has informed that its new education project entered the final stage. The essence of the project is that its participants spend nine months 'studying on the job' at the Southern Coal Company, the university's industrial strategic partner. Ten students pioneered the project, and with the practice time coming to an end, all they have to do is pass the final state certification.

Experiment participants are senior students in mining, studying at the faculties of geology, mining and oil & gas engineering. The benefits of an extensive nine-month practice are that students obtain a working speciality and, having worked at various sites/areas of the enterprise, gain a broad understanding of the industry.

An unconditional plus is that each project participant is trained according to a personal curriculum, with theoretical studies delivered via sdo – the university's online learning platform. As for practical training, each student has a curator assigned by the Southern Coal Company. Curators are senior executives of the enterprise; they also appoint the topic of the final qualifying work, ensuring it will be beneficial for a specific production.

Now the university's management plans to pay attention to the requests of other industrial partners and actively disseminate the experience gained to other areas and specialities.

Let us recall that on September, 1 Siberian Federal University (SibFu) established a boarding school with a focus on physics and mathematics. The school admits students of 10th and 11th grades, regardless of their home region. High-school students from Krasnoyarsk Krai, Irkutsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Belgorod, Novosibirsk, Tomsk oblasts, Bashkortostan, Buryatia, Khakassia have already enrolled.
