At the end of October, the oldest technical university in Russia will host the international forum ”Mineral Resources as the Basis of National Sovereignty – Workforce and Innovation Environment.” It will serve as a natural continuation of the agenda of the Russia-Africa summits held in 2019 and 2023, and a key milestone event in the work of the university consortium ”Africa’s Subsoil,” created at the initiative of Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University and the Competence Center for Mining Education under the auspices of UNESCO.

The summer school season at the Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University has come to an end. The last group of students to attend were from the Chinese University of Mining and Technology in Xuzhou. Over the course of two weeks, they attended lectures, participated in workshops, practiced on simulators, and explored the northern capital and its industries as part of field trips.

The opening ceremony of the summer school, the program of which was created specifically for guests from Xuzhou, was attended by the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in the city on the Neva, Mr. Luo Zhanhui.

They particularly expressed how the host university managed to find the optimal combination of lectures, laboratory work, practical visits to production facilities and excursion programs.

The parties agreed to establish joint scientific, educational and research centers, as well as exchanges of students and teachers

The first participants were students and postgraduates from Iran. Together with them, a representative delegation of teachers from Shiraz University, as well as Organizations of Mining Engineers from Fars province, arrived at the oldest technical university in Russia.

On Wednesday, 5 June, a delegation from the Republic of Sudan led by Minister of Mineral Resources Mohammed Albashir Abunommo paid a working visit to Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University. During the meeting with Rector Vladimir Litvinenko, he discussed the prospects of scientific and educational co-operation. Its representatives explained why the need for access to quality education is one of the most urgent for them. On Friday, May 24, the St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II hosted the International Forum “Africa Day. Education for the Future”. It was held on the eve of Liberation Day, which was established 61 years ago in Addis Ababa. This holiday symbolizes the aspiration of all states located on the Sunny continent to unity, peace and prosperity.

The level of Russia’s trade turnover with African countries last year increased by 30% and amounted to about 25 billion dollars. According to expert forecasts, this figure may well double in 5 years, which will make the Sunny continent one of the largest trade and economic partners of our country.

A delegation from the Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University took part in the International Symposium of UNESCO Centres held in Kuala Lumpur. This platform united specialists from 23 different countries of the world, whose activities are related to solving tasks that contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
