The Mining Museum houses a rare collection of minerals, ores, rocks, paleontological rarities, models and maquettes on the history of mining and engineering equipment, cold steel, stone-cutting and jewellery art. There are over 240 thousand exhibits, many of which are unique.

The museum is located in historical Halls, which cover a total area of more than 4,000 square meters in the central part of the architectural ensemble of the Mining Cadet Corps, designed by Andrey Voronikhin. An architect Alexander Postnikov and artist Giovanni Battista Scotti provided the interior decoration of the premises.

The main staircase leads to the Hall wherein the University's and Museum's historical records, as well as temporary exhibits, are on display. The exposition includes an interactive periodic table with real samples of most chemical elements.
