The thirteen-story main building of the Major University of San Andres is called a monoblock by the people of La Paz. It is the first ”skyscraper” of the unofficial capital of Bolivia. It was built in 1947, influenced by the pre-Columbian architecture of South America. Today, its aesthetics are quite consistent with the country’s course toward sovereignty and a social state.

The XIX International Forum-Contest of Students and Young Scientists ”Topical Problems of Subsoil Use” under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO is over. What expectations did the contestants have from participation in such a large-scale event, and most importantly: how satisfied were they?

The first university in Hungary was founded in the city of Pécs back in 1367, four centuries before the first university appeared in the Russian Empire. Subsequently, many higher educational institutions in a variety of fields were established on the territory of the kingdom. However, in the 20th century, young Hungarians gladly went to study to the USSR. What drove them, and how do today’s graduates of the 60s and 70s assess their connection with Russia?

The corresponding decree was signed by the President of Russia in the year of the 250th anniversary of the first higher technical educational institution in our country.

St. Petersburg Mining University has signed a cooperation agreement with Cinema 5, which is located in Shkipersky Mall, in front of the third educational center of the university. According to the agreement, once a month films of patriotic and social orientation will be shown in one of its halls especially for students.

The St. Petersburg Mining University was visited on a working meeting by Ousmane Drame, president of the private Ahmed Baba University, located in the capital of Mali, Bamako. This university is one of the few institutions of higher education in West Africa, which trains specialists for the metallurgical and mining industry.

A delegation of the Association of Vietnamese Citizens in Russia, headed by Chairman Do Xuan Hoang, visited St. Petersburg Mining University on a working visit. During the meeting with Rector Vladimir Litvinenko, the parties discussed the prospects of cooperation between the higher schools of the two countries.

He was Ismagil Tasimov, a mining industrialist from Bashkiria, who convinced senators and officials of the urgency of training their own engineering staff and his colleagues of the need to finance a new educational institution.

On Friday, May 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on a pilot project to reform higher education. In particular, it provides for the abolition of the bachelor’s degree and the introduction of a basic level of higher education, the programs of which will last from four to six years
