Итоги встречи Владимира Литвиненко со старостами групп
The first event in the renovated assembly hall of St. Petersburg Mining University was the rector’s meeting with student group monitors. In fact, the hall was the first example of what the head of the university expects from the student government. “I would like it not to be empty, to be used by you all the time, from morning till night. I wish that the initiative would come from the students and not from the rectorate,” urged Vladimir Litvinenko.

On Friday, November 26, St. Petersburg Mining University held a meeting of the Academic Council. It began with a moment of silence in memory of the miners and rescuers killed in a methane explosion at the Listvyazhnaya mine in Kuzbass. As Vladimir Litvinenko, the rector of the university noted, the cause of the tragedy is a reckless attitude to the system of staffing of high-tech industries, which includes the entire mining sector.

Igor Sikorsky, known outside of Russia as Mr Helicopter, made a small rubber band-powered helicopter at age 12. Forty years later, a machine of his design became the world’s first mass-produced helicopter. Yet few know, the model he had designed might have never seen the light of day if not for the help of another Russian, a famous composer who had nothing to do with aviation.
