MEGA (Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency) chairman of the board of directors Davies Mculu and General Manager of Properties and Infrastructure Themba Camane together with Dr. Nandi Msimang, the Managing Director of Hadassah Group, paid a visit to the oldest technical university to discuss future projects.

Vice-president of “SOGAZ” Sergey Okhotnikov and vice-rector of the Mining University, Anatoliy Suslov gave the delegates a tour around the university and the mining museum.

Later on, the delegates met with rector, Vladimir Litvinenko, to discuss collaboration between the Saint-Petersburg Mining University and South Africa in raw materials development.

According to the MEGA delegates, such venture could start by launching four projects in fields of gold, uranium, coal and gas extraction. The details of this partnership will later be put to paper in the Collaboration Memorandum that is set to be signed on 1st of June. Such collaboration is most profitable for both sides since South Africa is highly rich with natural resources such as platinum, iron, copper and many other. Currently, South Africa is top of the world in raw materials extraction.

It’s noteworthy, that another South African delegation from Ministry of Higher Education and Professional Training lead by General Director for foreign affairs Galib Jeppy visited the University in January. The main topic discussed was participation of South African Higher Education staff in developing projects within the framework of UNESCO International Competence Center established here at Saint-Petersburg Mining University.
