Students of Lanzhou University of Technology came to the Mining University this summer as interns of the International Summer School. After having finished their education upon the programme "Innovations and development prospects of mechanical and electrical engineering", they shared the impressions of their stay in Russia.

Within a framework of a specially designed educational programme, the guests from China attended a course of lectures as well as took part in workshops, seminars and field visits. The main topics of these activities were extraction of raw peat and transportation of bulk materials.

As Sang Guo Yang, whose specialization is “Energy and power engineering” says, "I have been interested in Russian culture for a long time and I am glad that here, in Saint-Petersburg, I could learn more about it. Besides, I was also willing to experience the atmosphere of academic education in Russian universities, such as, for instance, the way teachers and students interact with each other during class activities. I guess I am lucky that I had a chance to study at the Saint-Petersburg Mining University, as it is one of the oldest higher mining schools in Europe and the first higher engineering education institution in Russia. All the teachers obviously spent a lot of time preparing for the classes. The teachers are really good at what they are doing, and I would be happy to have an opportunity in the future to conduct a research with Russian professors".

As a part of the programme’s activities, its participants visited a number of field-specific enterprises, such as "Mekhanobr Tekhnika", "Hyundai Motor manufacturing Rus", "Elektroapparat" and a few others.

Wang Kai, another student from China, says, "We have visited some companies here, gained new professional knowledge, participated in project-based learning. Speaking about lectures, the popularization of laser printing technology was the most interesting one. At the lecture professor told us about the technology and also mentioned different uses of it, including the use of laser frequency to change the color. At the end of the class, he also gave us the badges, which represent mutual relations between our two universities".

The International Summer School with a focus on mechanical engineering and materials science was this season’s last one. Before that, the Mining University was also visited by interns from Lebanese International University in Beirut, AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow and Freiberg University of Mining and Technology.

In fact, almost all the students were under impression of our city and its suburbs. As one of them, Zhang Min, says, "I like the city. The European architecture and the slow pace of life attract me very much. The inhabitants of Saint-Petersburg are friendly and kind. The best place here is the Summer Garden. Walking there you can feel the beauty of the place. Every plant, brick or tile or the garden were carefully designed and laid out".

Next year each programme of the summer school will certainly include lectures and workshops presented by the leading professors of the Mining University. Study visits to some of the businesses operating in Saint-Petersburg and its region will be organized as well.
