XV International Forum-Contest of Young Researchers "Topical Issues of Rational Use of Natural Resources" will be held at the venue of Saint-Petersburg Mining University on 13-17 May 2019.
This year, for the first time ever the Forum-contest is held under the patronage of the International Competence Center for Mining-Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO. Among the participants of the Forum are students and postgraduates from the best universities of the world, as well as employees of mining, geological, oil and gas, energy and metals companies. The contest itself is a kind of a talent show or a platform, where young people may present their own developments and at the same acknowledge work of their foreign colleagues, top experts of mineral resources complex.
The program of the event includes a plenary session “Mineral resources complex: current challenges and perspectives”, which will be conducted in the form of an open dialogue between the experts and the audience. Different master classes and workshops presented by both Russian and foreign leading field experts have been also scheduled. Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Representative of the Russian President for International Cultural Cooperation, will deliver a prestige lecture on the topic “Present-day intellectual: what will he be like?”
According to Leonid Sinkov, the Head of the Department of Student Scientific and Technical Work, "The most specific feature of this Forum is that we introduce a few new formats this year, so as to provide new opportunities for young students and researchers to demonstrate their skills and knowledge. For example, case-competition includes solving real industry tasks. TED-style presentations suggest showing slides or using video demonstrations at the time of the speech".
Among the topics to be presented at the competition are breakthrough technologies of integrated processing of mineral, hydrocarbon and technogenic raw materials, new technologies of geological mapping, search and prospecting of mineral deposits, the use of digital technologies in mineral resources sector.
For the purposes of maximal promotion of young researchers' scientific papers, Mining University carries on a tradition of publishing the best articles of the Forum-contest as a separate collection of articles. The published materials will be indexed by Scopus. The submission deadline for applications is set at March 1, 2019.
The Forum-contest "Topical Issues of Rational Use of Natural Resources" is annually attended by more than 400 participants, representatives of universities and companies from over twenty countries of the world. More information about the event is available here.
