Twenty-one persons became the winners of the forum – six of them were from the Mining University, two represented Freiberg University of Mining and Technology and two more came from AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. The rest of the winners either study or work in Chinese, Belarusian, French, Austrian, Czech or American universities and companies.

According to Vladimir Borzenkov, Director General of the International Competence Centre for Mining-Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO, "This year, we have had a record number of contestants. Most of the works they presented at the Forum were of very high quality and also scientifically sound. For these reasons, it was not easy for us to decide whose work is the best, and in three categories the highest award was given to two contestants at once."

What topics interest young scientists today? For example, Petr Rezkin from Polotsk, who took the first place in the category "New managerial and financial solutions aimed at mineral sector development", presented a project named "A value chain in the oil refining and petrochemical industry: strategy evaluation and integration". Gert Barsch from Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, who became the winner in the category "Use of breakthrough technologies of complex mineral and technogenic raw materials processing for designing beyond materials", presented a study on the formation of niobium carbides in steel.
