Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko:

- I warmly congratulate you, the faculty, students, postgraduates, employees and graduates of St. Petersburg Mining University on the high international recognition.

Today the first technical university in Russia retains its position as one of the leaders in the country’s higher education system, which is confirmed by the results of the subject ranking compiled by the British agency QS. Especially important is that this is not a one-time success, but a long-term trend, because Mining University is in the top 20 of this prestigious ranking for the fifth year in a row.

Drawing on its best traditions, the university trains qualified specialists who are capable of creative and broad-minded thinking and are in demand in today’s realities. The pride of the university is its staff, enthusiastic, talented people, whose scientific developments have received worldwide fame and recognition. I am sure that the Mining University will continue to be a true forge of personnel and will continue to make a significant contribution to the development of the national mineral and raw materials complex and will serve to strengthen interstate cooperation in the field.

I wish you not to rest on your laurels, always move forward and conquer any heights.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak:

- One of the main objectives of the International Center of Competence in Mining Engineering Education, established on the basis of St. Petersburg Mining University under the auspices of UNESCO, is the implementation of the UN objectives in the field of sustainable development, which means, in particular, to create conditions for equal access to quality education for all residents of the planet and to implement a system of lifelong learning. This is very important, because knowledge is becoming outdated so rapidly that the baggage one acquires as a student is no longer sufficient ten or twenty years after graduation.

The University’s two hundred and fifty years of experience is simply irreplaceable here. And the high international ranking, which the university received from one of the most respected ranking agencies in the world, is just another confirmation of this.

Mikhail Shvydkoi, former Minister of Culture and Special Representative of the President for International Cultural Cooperation:

The voice of our higher education is heard in the choir of the world’s best universities! It is gratifying that the soloist is St. Petersburg Mining University, which is the base university for the country. To paraphrase Alexander Tvardovsky’s lines about the mineral resource complex, of which your university is the face, I can say:

And into our souls, just like a song,

With a mighty bass it enters -

The main mining institution of the state,

Its miner and its blacksmith,

An age mate of our olden glory

And our present glory the creator of!
