A delegation of the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas headed by Deputy Minister Tarun Kapoor paid a working visit to St. Petersburg Mining University. During the meeting with Rector Vladimir Litvinenko, they discussed such issues as training qualified specialists for the oil and gas industry and prospects of using hydrocarbons in the global fuel and energy balance.

The guests pointed out that despite the increasing share of renewable energy sources, fossil fuels will long remain the backbone of the fuel and energy complex in India and many other countries in Asia. Moreover, natural gas will be in the highest demand. According to forecasts, its consumption in the Republic will triple by 2040 and will exceed 200 billion cubic meters per year. Given that gas production in the country is currently underdeveloped, New Delhi is negotiating to attract investment in projects related to the exploration and development of fields in the country, as well as plans to significantly increase LNG imports.

Equally important is the training of competent specialists. There is currently only one Indian student at Saint Petersburg Mining University, and this is certainly not enough. The parties expressed the hope that soon the situation will change and the number of students who come to the city on the Neva from the world’s second-most populous power will increase significantly.
