Mining University hosted a career day for the leader of Russian gold mining and one of the largest gold producers in the world, Polyus. The students were not only told about the prospects of the corporation's development but were also invited to take an internship at one of its business units.

Last year, the Polyus Company produced 2 766 thousand ounces of gold. The revenues from its sales amounted to $4,998 million, exceeding the previous year's figure by 25%. This is due to the growth of the average selling price ($1,786 vs. $1,403 per ounce respectively). This dynamics was primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic because the yellow metal becomes especially popular among investors in periods of economic instability and high market volatility.

Of course, this conjuncture makes the industry more and more popular with young people. Thus, more than a hundred students came to Polus's Career Day at the conference hall of the Mining University, who wanted to become part of the company. Heads of its structural subdivisions, such as Polyus Magadan, Polyus Aldan, the Science and Technology Department of the Holding's Research Center, and some others told the students about the production process, innovations in gold mining, and the Learn the Price of the Gold program for students.

It is aimed at attracting, selecting, and reducing the period of adaptation of young specialists at enterprises. At its initial stage, company representatives travel to flagship technical universities and invite senior students who are pursuing specialized training areas for on-the-job training. They are paid for their travel to and from the internship site and are provided with three meals a day. Then, after graduation, the most talented of them receive invitations to take up engineering positions.

As the guests noted, Mining University is one of Polyus' most important partners, and not only in terms of replenishing the workforce pool. Scientists from Russia's oldest technical university provide scientific support for a number of the company's projects. In particular, geophysical research aimed at extending the boundaries of existing fields and improvement of the technological process of heap leaching.
