Mining University Launches International Autumn Schools

Students from 13 institutions of higher education from Azerbaijan, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, China, Namibia, Poland, Ecuador, and South Africa participate in short-term educational programs at St. Petersburg Mining University. The classes are held in such fields of training as “Petroleum Practical Engineering,” “Mining Machinery and Equipment,” “Digital Mining Production,” and some others.

In the course on “Oil Practical Engineering” teachers of Mining University tell about the advanced technologies of wells drilling, oil and gas fields development and operation, peculiarities of hydrocarbons transportation, assessment of economic efficiency of profile investment projects. In addition to the lecture course, the training includes practical classes, which will allow students to acquire skills in designing directional wells, study complications arising during field operation, and evaluate the effectiveness of the hydraulic fracturing method.

The special short-term program “Mining machinery and equipment” includes a course of lectures on innovations and prospects of development of mining engineering, as well as automation of surface mining. During the course, students study modern methods of mathematical modeling and programming in mechanical engineering, organization of underground mining on the example of modern Caterpillar technologies.

During practical classes, students will master such professional competencies as “Crawler bulldozer operator” and “Pit dump truck operator”, get acquainted with equipment for determination of physical and mechanical properties of materials from Zwick Roell company.

The main course on “Digital Mining” will begin on October 19. It includes lectures on the topic of sustainable development of the energy and mineral complex based on digital technologies. During the course, students will learn about the most successful examples of the application of digital twins, smart contracts, and blockchain in the mining industry.

At the end of the training, the participants will be divided into teams, each of which will present its project aimed at the sustainable development of the industry through the implementation of digital technology solutions.

Let us remind that due to the sanitary and epidemiological situation, the Mining University’s fall schools are held in an online format.
