On Friday, October 15, Russian Minister of Energy Nikolay Shulginov awarded Aleksandra Buldysko, the captain of the WeWatt St. Petersburg Mining University, a diploma for first place in the Youth Global Energy Outlook contest. Representatives of 42 higher educational institutions and 26 companies of the fuel and energy complex took part in it, but the representatives of the oldest technical university of Russia became the best. The uniqueness of their achievement is that for the last 4 years WeWatt has become the winner of this competition for the third time.
“You make an important contribution to solving scientific problems faced by the domestic fuel and energy complex. The future is behind you, so I am especially pleased to congratulate you today on this remarkable achievement,” Nikolay Shulginov addressed the representatives of Mining University.
Their project was dedicated to an analysis of global technological trends, namely 95 technologies aimed at developing energy systems in the Far North. Using a mathematical model, they predicted an increase in energy consumption in the Arctic zone and hypothesized about the types of raw materials that would cover this demand. In their opinion, the main resource in the polar region will be natural gas.
Students from St. Petersburg Mining University were also recognized in other nominations. For instance, they won second place in the MediaTek case study championship. The task of the young people was to determine the criteria for analyzing the attractiveness of fuel and energy companies and the MBC as potential employers.
“Our solution is a digital platform focused on synchronizing the needs of employers and job seekers in the labor market. On the one hand, when individuals register and fill out a questionnaire, they see the results of the calculation of the companies' ranking, compiled in terms of employment prospects for their staff. On the other hand, companies receive recommendations on personnel and social policies, based on the analysis of a large amount of data from candidates for vacancies,” says the captain of the Mining University team, student Pavel Suslikov.
The residents of St. Petersburg also became the best in the category "Project Leader" at the interactive sessions #ENERGYLAB on the formation of youth technological programs for the development of the fuel and energy complex. Their research work was devoted to the development of the Arctic.
“The essence of the concept is to create a separate energy complex on the territory of the Yamal Peninsula with the inclusion of forecasting systems and redistribution of electricity depending on meteorological conditions. In addition, the role of renewable energy sources, and in the long term, hydrogen, is expected to increase. Such a project, if implemented, will not only significantly speed up the economic and social growth of the region, but also make a huge step forward on the way to the fourth energy transition,” shared the opinion of team captain Boris Seryogin.
It should be noted that students of Mining University also took part in the “Dialogue on Equal Terms,” which was the key event of the Russian Energy Week Youth Day. As part of it, the students had the opportunity to ask questions of interest to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, CEO of Rosatom Alexei Likhachev, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Gazprom Neft Alexander Dyukov, and several other experts.
