All five developments of the university scientists were awarded gold medals and diplomas of the first degree according to the results of the competition held in the framework of the XXIX International Exhibition of Innovations "HI-TECH" in Expoforum. Such an impressive result was achieved for the first time during the entire period of participation in the exhibition.

The exhibition has been held since 1996 and is a site for collaboration of scientific teams and potential investors, striving to introduce breakthrough ideas and technologies into production. The range of thematic sections is quite wide. It includes robotics, additive technologies, automation of industrial enterprises and much more.

This year, over 250 companies and organizations presented their products at the exhibition, more than a quarter of them were from Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The main criteria of their projects evaluation were novelty, scientific and technical importance, legal protection of intellectual property objects and implementation potential in real production.

"St.Petersburg Mining University is traditionally a participant of the contest for the best innovation project of the year, which is held during the exhibition. Last year, for example, we received three gold and three silver medals, but now we have managed to achieve even greater success. When announcing the results, the representatives of the expert jury noted that this year our scientists presented "very strong developments and technologies. They have all the prospects for commercial distribution in the Russian and foreign markets," said Olga Trushko, head of the university's patent and licensing department.

What projects are we talking about? For example, in the category "Resource-saving energy, heat conservation, batteries, fuel cells, solar batteries, wind turbines, energy-saving technologies and equipment," the work "Liquefied Natural Gas Storage System" won. Its authors are Viktor Bolobov, professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Mining University, and Yana Martynenko, a graduate student of the university, who proposed a solution for tank farms and tankers transporting LNG. It completely eliminates fuel dumping into the atmosphere or flaring.

In the direction of "New materials and technologies, chemical products, efficient extraction and deep processing of minerals, hydrocarbon raw materials" the first place was taken by the project "Method of processing of complex complex raw materials and evaluation of its efficiency" (authors: Alexandrova T.N., Nikolaeva N.V., Romashev A.O., Kuznetsov V.V., Gatiatullin B.L., Kallaev I.T.). We are talking about the involvement in the industrial turnover of man-made deposits at the expense of extraction from the tailings processing of valuable metals, regardless of their concentration.

The five winning innovations of the scientists of the St. Petersburg Mining University also include the "In-line scanner - a solution for complex pipelines" (authors: Pshenin V.V., Jemilev E.R., Rozanova L.R, M.S. Komarovsky); "Method for obtaining homogeneous comparison samples" (authors: Y.D. Smirnov, M.A. Chukaeva, I.P. Sverchkov); and "Smart mill for increasing energy efficiency" (authors: I.I. Beloglazov, A.A. Kulchitsky, M.Yu. Nikolaev).
