The final races of the winter season of the Winter Iron Racer 2024 city amateur rally championship took place at the St. Petersburg Autodrome. The team of the oldest technical university of Russia "ГорныйSport+" took the first place in the team classification for the second time in a row. Its representatives have already repeatedly participated in these competitions and were almost always in the top three. During the races of the final, sixth stage, they successfully performed in several categories at once, which brought victory to the national team as a whole.

Nikita Nikolaev, a student of the Faculty of Economics, became the champion in individual competition. He performed in the category "Rear-wheel drive - standard" on VAZ-2107. According to the young man, motorsport is not only a great way to spend free time, get an additional charge of optimism for further studies, but also the opportunity to feel part of the team, which is also important.

According to Evgeny Kartsev, the captain of the Mining University team, another advantage of participating in the rally is the opportunity to "work with the iron", i.e. to prepare the car for the races with your own hands. Taking into account that engineers mostly come out of the university, this is a great help for practical acquaintance with their future profession.

"The final stage, among other things, was also a story about overcoming difficulties. The thing is that the tires on our cars are designed for snow, but the snow, unfortunately, has already completely melted, so the race turned out to be as difficult for us as possible, but therefore more interesting than usual. The weather, which was not favorable to us, required us to jump above our heads," shared his emotions Evgeny Kartsev, who was driving a 2106 in the category "Rear-wheel drive - sport".

He emphasized that the "ГорныйSport+" team is open to all students of the university who want to take part in the races. However, it is necessary to have your own car and realize that its preparation for the races, as well as recovery after them, requires not only certain skills and moral stability, but also some financial investments.

Andrei Kovalenko, a teacher of the Physical Education Department, who won the third place in the "Front Wheel Drive - Sport" classification, specified that the management of St. Petersburg Mining University makes a lot of efforts to involve young people in a healthy lifestyle. Among other things, it gives the guys free access to the university's sports infrastructure and pays the fees for their participation in field competitions of various levels. Among them is the city championship in rally sport.
