The "Resonance" team of the Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress took third place at the university hackathon organized by Gazprom, which was finalised in Ufa.
The task of its participants was to develop a data converter for geophysical well surveys. In other words, a program that could take files with logging information collected over a long time and not meet the uniform requirements to modern standards, as well as upload them to a centralized repository with a user-friendly interface.
Teams from some of the best higher educational institutions in the country worked together for three days to solve this case. Importantly, these teams were made up mainly of future IT professionals. However, the oldest technical university in Russia was also represented by students studying geophysics, which makes their bronze medals even more impressive.
«The management of the Mining University is working hard to ensure that our graduates have a high level of digital skills. This is particularly important for geophysicists, who must be able to accurately interpret the data they collect during exploration. The result, no doubt, is thanks to our students' access to the latest software. Both in class and outside of regular school hours, we strive to provide our students with the best tools available to help them succeed.», - Lyubov Nikolaichuk, deputy director of the Institute for the Development of Interdisciplinary Competencies at the University and curator of the Resonance team, commented on the award.
It should be noted that 18 teams from various cities, including St. Petersburg, Moscow, Tomsk, Tyumen, Kazan, Yakutsk, Innopolis, Ukhta, and Ufa, took part in the hackathon. The Ufa State Petroleum Technical University served as the organizer of the event.
