At first glance, building a career in the Far North is a bold, if not daring decision. However, it is there that the largest oil fields in Russia are located, so, combined with harsh winters and remoteness from megacities, local specialists have an opportunity to achieve rapid success in their efforts. A St. Petersburg university graduate told how to become a leading specialist in the Production Optimization Sector of RNYuganskneftegaz just within a few years.

The total number of universities in the association has reached twenty-five. Among them are the most authoritative technical and economic institutions of higher education in Russia, whose areas of study are related to training personnel for the mineral and raw materials complex of the country.

What will the global energy of tomorrow? What changes does the mining industry and oil and gas complex need in order to minimize the burden on ecosystems? Is it possible to achieve the goals of sustainable development proclaimed by the UN and at the same time to provide humanity with minerals? The participants of the large-scale International online forum “Advanced Engineering Competencies - the Future of the Mining Industry”, which included representatives of UNESCO, the Russian Ministry of Energy, higher educational institutions, major specialized companies and professional communities, tried to find answers to these and other questions.

One of the most serious problems of the coming decade, many experts call the decline in the quality of higher education due to partial or complete transition to online education because of coronavirus. At the same time, the rapid development of technology, on the contrary, requires from young people coming to modern production, whatever branch of the economy it belongs to, a much greater amount of knowledge and skills than before.

Despite the pandemic, Russia continues to hold educational exhibitions abroad, attracting foreign students to its universities. What are the consequences for the future if we stop addressing this issue today?

He articulated his initiative at the conference dedicated to the creation of an international unified system of competences for specialists in the mineral complex and raw materials complex.

Three graduates of Mining University have become laureates of the competition for the St. Petersburg Government prizes awarded for the performance of graduation works commissioned by executive government agencies. The competition was conducted by the Committee for Science and Higher School.

The University of the Northern Capital will allocate additional funds to students and employees during the educational and consulting period.

Will Mining University switch to remote mode of education?

According to surveys, only 15% of Russians are ready to obtain additional competencies after graduation. The rest believe that knowledge and skills should be replenished only in case of emergency, for example, when applying for a new job or promotion. At the same time, the pace of technological progress today is so high that, according to most analysts, only those who study throughout their lives can count on a successful career. And they would do that absolutely consciously, on a voluntary basis, and not “under constraint.”

For an ordinary resident of St. Petersburg, the word Chechnya associates with something criminally dangerous. Or it sounds like a Russian analogue of the Middle Eastern monarchy. But there is a university in the Northern Capital of Russia, at which its scientists are well aware that the structure of the main industrial base of the Republic is oil. And for a good we can speak about a long-term cooperation with the republic. Graduates of the university have made a significant contribution to the development of the mineral and raw materials industry in Chechnya, to the exploration and development of oil and gas fields in the North Caucasus.

A regional representative office of the International Competence Center in Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO was established on the basis of SIBUR. The agreement was signed by the rector of the St. Petersburg Mining University Vladimir Litvinenko and the chairman of the board of SIBUR Holding Dmitry Konov.

Its task will be to improve the quality of higher education and scientific research aimed at increasing the efficiency of enterprises in the mineral resources sector.
