Next programme in our series of articles about Summer schools in the Mining University is “Geological Tour around the Mountainous Crimea”. The programme was created by the academic stuff of the Department of Historical and Dynamic Geology.
The programme itself is very much action-oriented, as in the field period our students are expected to perform following types of tasks: recognaissance routs; geological mapping of studying area; geological excursions; current cameral processing of field materials; acceptance of field materials etc.
The final cameral processing is carried out within 5 days after the end of field works and provides for the final processing of all types of geological documentation, elimination of deficiencies which were identified during the acceptance of field materials, and the final report preparation.
In addition to geological activities, participants of this programme will also visit a number of industrial and cultural excursions and have a look at the most important Crimean monuments, such as the Swallow's Nest, Livadia Palace, the cave city of Eski-Kermen and others.
According to Irina Talovina, the Head of the Department of Historical and Dynamic Geology, "It is an absolutely amazing place. To find a better field test site, where students could learn the basics of plotting as well as develop their practical skills, would be a rather difficult task".
Last summer, students from Germany participated in the Summer School activities in Crimea. Here’s what they told about the Summer School:
“Here we get to see everything firsthand. We can do the plotting, select formation or fauna samples. This is a field work, which is extremely valuable” (Maximillian)
"It was a great practical training here" (Franz)
Now you can see it all for yourself, if you decide to apply for this programme. If you want to learn more about the programme, such as requirements, duration, fees etc., you can find it all here.
Remember to follow our series about Summer schools and you will find out everything you need to know to make a right choice!
