Scientific organizations that most often apply to Rospatent for registration of inventions and utility models have become known. St. Petersburg Mining University is in the top 7 of the All-Russian ranking, having filed 42 such applications in the first half of the year.
According to St. Mining Petersburg university, this is the result of a large amount of scientific research, which is carried out by scientists of the first Russian higher technical school. Within the framework of the experiments, they create innovative developments and new technologies that are in demand both in Russian and foreign markets.
“Every year, more than 150 of our applications are registered in Rospatent. Not only for inventions and utility models but also for computer programs, databases, and trademarks. 98% of them receive titles of protection in the form of patents and certificates, most of which are in demand at the enterprises of mineral and raw materials and fuel and energy complexes,” said Olga Trushko, the Head of the Patent and Licensing Department of Mining University.
For obvious reasons, data on the content of the applications filed this year will not be disclosed. On the other hand, the intellectual property that is already protected by protective documents is not a secret. This is, for example, a multi-zone fluidized bed gasifier. It is designed to produce synthesis gas from carbon-containing materials, in particular, from coal. Its introduction at thermal power plants makes it possible to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides due to the conversion of raw materials into a gaseous state and almost complete conversion of carbon.
Earlier, Mining University received a patent for the development of lightweight concrete. Due to its characteristics, it cannot be used for residential construction, but it is ideal for creating landscaping elements - paving slabs, curbs, drainage gutters, and other products.
