Students of St. Petersburg Mining University laid carnations at the spontaneous memorial that arose near the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tatarstan on Vasilievsky Island. They joined tens of thousands of citizens of St. Petersburg who since yesterday have been bringing flowers, candles and soft toys as a sign of support and sympathy to the victims and relatives of the victims in Kazan.

The scientific team, created in February 2021 on the basis of the Department of Geology and Exploration of Mineral Deposits and the Mining Museum, returned from its first field trip to the Putilovsky open pit.

All six developments of the scientists of Mining University, presented at the international HI TECH exhibition, were awarded various prizes of ”The Best Innovative Project of the Year” contest. According to the expert council, this was the result of “very strong scientific and technical solutions, which have already gained commercial distribution in the Russian and foreign markets.”

On the eve of Victory Day, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at the oldest technical university in Russia. Wreaths and flowers were laid at the foot of the memorial to the students and professors who died during the Great Patriotic War.

In 1816 - 205 years ago - Empress Catherine the Great signed a decree on transferring her private collection of minerals from the Hermitage to the Mining Museum. The collectables were mentioned as far back as in the first guide to St. Petersburg. Yet, they have remained mixed with the rest of the exhibits for almost two centuries, with some of the items ending up gifted to other museums.

Mining University held a seminar dedicated to the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Its participants noted the high level of measures taken by the university’s management to improve the safety and quality of work and educational processes. Constant modernization of infrastructure, regular sanitation of premises, medical examinations of employees, reimbursement of food expenses, and a number of others are among them.

Mr. Koji Toyoshima, the head of the Moscow representative office of the Japanese National Oil, Gas and Metals Corporation JOGMEC visited St. Petersburg Mining University. During the meeting with the rector Vladimir Litvinenko he discussed the prospects of the partnership between the parties in such areas as scientific support of the company’s projects in our country, as well as research in the field of transportation and storage of hydrogen.

A delegation of the Dresden Government, headed by its Oberbűrgomistrator Hilbert Dirk, paid a working visit to Mining University. The representatives of the capital of Saxony came to St. Petersburg to participate in the German Week.
