Students of St. Petersburg Mining University laid carnations at the spontaneous memorial that arose near the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tatarstan on Vasilievsky Island. They joined tens of thousands of citizens of St. Petersburg who since yesterday have been bringing flowers, candles and soft toys as a sign of support and sympathy to the victims and relatives of the victims in Kazan.

In 1816 - 205 years ago - Empress Catherine the Great signed a decree on transferring her private collection of minerals from the Hermitage to the Mining Museum. The collectables were mentioned as far back as in the first guide to St. Petersburg.
