The collection of the Mining Museum has been enriched with a new exhibit directly related to the attacks of September 11, 2001. The bronze monument was created in three copies - one installed in New York, one in the Konstantinovsky Palace, and the third now in downtown St. Petersburg.

Denis Isupov, a graduate of St. Petersburg Mining University’s Department of Explosives Engineering (pictured far left) became one of three participants in Orica’s Young Professional Program. Representatives of the world’s largest manufacturer of explosives said that in two years they will turn the promising young man into a “real explosives engineer“. They explained their interest in adding recruits at the expense of recent students by the serious shortage of competent specialists in the industry.

Rector of St. Petersburg Mining University Vladimir Litvinenko had a working meeting with the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in St. Petersburg Stefano Weinberger. The parties discussed the preparation for the next Russian-German Raw Materials Forum, which will take place in April.

Hydrocarbon production accounts for 88% of Angola’s GDP. The country ranks second in oil reserves in sub-Saharan Africa, falling behind Nigeria only, and third in gas reserves, with Nigeria and Mozambique ahead. However, the Republic of Angola halted the production of natural gas in 2015.

Following the British QS, the second of the world’s three most authoritative companies for grading institutions of higher education noted the progress of St. Petersburg Mining University.

A delegation of the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas headed by Deputy Minister Tarun Kapoor paid a working visit to St. Petersburg Mining University. During the meeting with Rector Vladimir Litvinenko, they discussed such issues as training qualified specialists for the oil and gas industry and prospects of using hydrocarbons in the global fuel and energy balance

St. Petersburg Mining University ranked 12th place in the QS subject ranking, improving its last year’s result by 6 positions at once. This is a record: in the history of ranking, Russian universities have never risen so high in the prestigious international charts. The Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and many other politicians, industrialists and public figures sent congratulations to Russia’s oldest higher technical school.

Russia’s first technical university ranked the top in the ranking of domestic institutions of higher education in international rankings

In 2020, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky became the top trending Russian musician outside the country. A billboard with an image of his was erected right in central New York, on Times Square. Yet notwithstanding the international recognition of the composer’s music, the Tchaikovskys are also known for having had connections with another industry, traditionally the key one for Rusia’s economy.
